Vegetarians have been around for ages, especially if you consider Hindu or Jain Indians.  There have been a few more well-known modern western vegetarians like Yes guitarist Steve Howe and Paul McCartney,

Many years ago, I was fishing, and as I was reeling in the poor fish, I realised, ‘I am killing him — all for the passing pleasure it brings me.’ And something inside me clicked. I realised as I watched him fight for breath, that his life was as important to him as mine is to me,”

I was even vegetarian for 8 years a while back, but I switched back to meat-eating over 10 years ago.  I remember my mother was horrified.  I reminded her that she grew up in a small town in Italy during the Great Depression where our relatives with a family of 15 had a “roast” with 2 pigeons and potatoes and the mother asked who wanted more meat?  Nevertheless, there has been a rise in vegetarianism in recent years and even more so a diet devoid of any animal products.  This philosophical diet is called veganism, a term designated in 1940s.

There has been a sharp rise in people reducing their animal consumption in recent years for ethical or environmental reasons.   While there may have been vegetarians before now, there are more people jumping onto the vegan bandwagon.  Ellen DeGeneres and her wife Portia de Rossi are vegans.  Others vegans include Natalie Portman, Liam Hemsworth, Ariana Grande, and even former Vice President of the USA, Al Gore.

While Actors, musicians, and politicians comprise the aforementioned list, what is quite surprising is when someone like Mike Tyson says he has adopted a plant-based diet.  He was gaining all sorts of weight by eating poorly in prison, so he switched to a vegan diet.  He claims that his dietary habits have contributed to turning his life around.  A CBC article talks of another professional athlete who has gone vegan (https://bit.ly/33zHR0Z).  Toronto Wolfpack’s Anthony Mullally, a rugby player, standing at 1.95m weighing in at 110Kg, is not a man you would associate with a plant-based diet.  Looking at him, he looks like he could eat half a cow in one sitting.  In the article, he talks about how he maintains his training,  weight, and strength all the while not eating any animal based product.

Now, we are talking about personal choice, however, the trend over the past few years, we have seen fast food companies like A&W promoting the Beyond Meat’s Beyond Burger™ and more recently KFC has come out with plant-based chicken and is testing the product here in the Greater Toronto area.

The question is, why now?  Last year, the planet Uranus who is responsible for revolutions and innovations entered the sign of Taurus, ruled by Venus, the ruler of flesh.  Taurus, the bull, is the sign associated with cows and therefore meat.  The asteroid Ceres (Demeter in the Greek pantheon), is associated with grain (cereal) as she is the goddess of grain/agriculture.   Ceres in Capricorn is in a trine aspect (positive aspect) to Uranus in Taurus.   This could be a rise to the grain/plant-based revolution we are starting to see.  We are beginning to see an increase in militant veganism in the cities.  Personally, I feel if they look to educate instead of protesting butchers and game restaurants, people might listen to them more rather as dismissing them as raving lunatics.

The planet Neptune rules vegetarians, and he entered his own sign of Pisces in 2011.  Saturn, the planet of discipline and order, entered his own sign of Capricorn in 2017.  I believe the combination of these two planets is making people head in the vegetarian/vegan direction more so than in the recent past.  The mathematician and philosopher Pythagoras was vegetarian because he believed all animals have souls.  I believe this too.   See my article (https://www.soulbody.ca/do-animals-have-souls/)  At the time of Pythagoras’s death, the planet Uranus entered Taurus as it is now and it was trine Ceres then as it was now.  Whereas Pythagoras was a philosopher, dictating to the populous what to do, Neptune in Pisces is the global consciousness talking to us to back off harmful land use and poor eating habits.

Anyway, this is a personal choice but I was just curious if there was something in the sky that showed the social trend.  My conclusion is the planet Uranus in Taurus with the trine to Ceres and Neptune in Pisces is sparking this trend.  Nevertheless, eat what is best for you!  Stay healthy and in peace.
